Lone Star College SBDC to host SBA’s Emerging Leaders Program

HOUSTON – The Lone Star College-Small Business Development Center is hosting the Small Business Administration’s fourth Annual Emerging Leaders Program beginning in April.

“This is an incredible program for CEOs and business owners who are ready and committed to experience strategic growth in their businesses,” said Miguel Lopez, LSC-SBDC executive director. “This program is an intensive six-month, executive-level training series.”

This intensive executive entrepreneurship series includes nearly 100 hours of classroom time held over the six-month period. It provides opportunities for small-business owners to work with experienced coaches and mentors, attend workshops, and develop connections with their peers, local leaders and the financial community.

The program begins April 5 and will last six months. Attendees will be provided the tools, resources and curriculum to grow their businesses. There is no cost to attend this program but those interested must apply by March 2.

Please visit SBA.Gov/EmergingLeaders for more information or to apply. For specific questions email Miguel Lopez or SBA Economic Specialist LaDonna Barbee.

This intensive program is not for startups or people who are thinking about starting a business.

"Applicants must be the CEO or business owner, have annual revenues of at least $400,000, been in business for at least three years and have at least one employee (other than self),” said Lopez.

Lopez also pointed out this is the first time the SBA has held the program in this area and is doing so to make it more convenient for the business owners in the growing north/northwest Harris County and Montgomery County areas.

“The Lone Star College-SBDC is excited to host this great opportunity,” said Lopez. “The training itself is customizable to the executive and includes a three-year strategic growth action plan going forward.”

Lone Star College offers high-quality, low-cost academic transfer and career training education to 99,000 students each semester. LSC is training tomorrow’s workforce today and redefining the community college experience to support student success. Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., serves as chancellor of LSC, the largest institution of higher education in the Houston area with an annual economic impact of $3.1 billion. LSC consists of six colleges, eight centers, two university centers, Lone Star Corporate College and LSC-Online. To learn more, visit LoneStar.edu.
