Galveston Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K Returns Sunday, February 18th
Please Note Event Routes, Roadway Closures, Traffic Advisories

GALVESTON, TEXAS – This Sunday, February 18th, the City will welcome athletes competing in the annual Galveston Marathon, Half Marathon, Cupid 5K, and Marathon Kids 1k.  The certified course takes runners through several of the Island’s premiere areas including Stewart Beach, East Beach, and Seawall Blvd (from approximately 26th Street to the east end). The marathon is a qualifier for participants who wish to compete in the Boston Marathon.             

Beginning Saturday, February 17th, No Parking signs will be placed along the race routes.  In addition, crews will begin closing lanes and roadway access at 4:30 AM on Sunday, February 18th.  Traffic cones and barricades will remain in place until 2:00 PM after the last participant completes the race.

Galveston Marathon and Half Marathon

The Galveston Marathon and Half Marathon will kick-off at 7:30 AM at Stewart Beach Park. Runners will leave Stewart Beach Park and head north on Seawall Blvd. They will then turn right on East Beach Drive and head back toward the Seawall using Apfell Park Road. They will then continue north on Seawall Drive, turning right on Boddekker Rd where they will be turned around at the dead end and head back to Seawall Blvd. Runners will continue on Seawall Blvd to just past 25th Street where they will be turned around and will then head back to Stewart Beach Park. Marathon participants will make this loop twice while half marathon participants will only complete this loop once.

Additional Traffic Information

  • Traffic will still flow in both directions at all times during the event as the race day closures only impact the southernmost east bound lane and parking lane on Seawall from 25th to the East End. 
  • There will be no parking along the Seawall along the race route after dark on February 17th. 
  • Boddeker Rd, East Beach Drive, and Apffel Park Road will be closed from 4:30am until approximately 2pm on February 18th. Residents of Beachtown will have access via East Beach Drive.
