Galveston County Commissioners Court today voted unanimously to enter into a professional services agreement with the Greater Metropolitan Safety Council for Community Preparedness Program Administration.

According to the request for quotation, services to be performed under the agreement include, but are not limited to recruiting, training, and coordinating the Community Emergency Response Team members and the Citizens Corp volunteers.

The court voted unanimously to approve the 2019 holiday schedule with the inclusion of Good Friday.

The court voted unanimously to issue a formal solicitation for Gum Bayou Channel improvements.

County Engineer Michael Shannon said he inherited the project in July 2015, stating it was scoped and funded prior to his involvement. Listen (4:37)

“We’re now to the point where we’re ready to advertise for bids,” said Shannon. “It’s a project that would improve the slope stability of Gum Bayou south of FM 646 for a stretch down behind some unimproved areas.”

He added the price tag comes to $2.9 million.

The court voted unanimously to issue purchase orders for the Dickinson Community Center and the Pioneer House at Carbide Park in La Marque.

The court voted unanimously to approve an interlocal agreement with the City of League City to reclaim and pave Smith Lane from Webster Street to Bern Street.

The court voted unanimously to honor Deputy Constable Christopher Smith for aiding an elderly man who suffered from chest pains on December 13, 2017. Listen (2:17)

“Christopher saved this individual’s life, and for that, we’re thankful for Christopher,” said Precinct 3 Constable Derrick Rose.

The court voted unanimously to recognize the following five entities for their contributions to Hurricane Harvey relief and recovery efforts:

  • CERT
  • TEXSAR
  • HEB
  • DSW Homes
  • JW Turner

The following four items were deferred:

  • Consideration of approval of terminating contract with The Goodman Corporation for consulting services associated with the Pelican Island Bridge
  • Request transfer from General Fund Budgeted Reserves to District Court Administration for salary and benefits associated with the District Court Administrator position
  • Consideration of approval to authorize County Judge to sign contract for environmental and public involvement consulting services with Crouch Environmental Services, Inc. for the Pelican Island Bridge
  • Consideration of approving the Galveston County Purchasing Policies and Procedures Manual adopted by the Galveston County Purchasing Agent on January 23, 2018, in accordance with Section 262.011(o) of the Texas Local Government Code

The court met in executive session and took subsequent action on only one item discussed in closed session, which is the unanimous approval of a settlement of the subrogation lien Kirby Mitchell v. Mainland Medical Center, et al in the 56th Judicial District Court.

All other agenda items were approved unanimously with all members present. Agenda
