Original Release:

At about 1:18 am, Dickinson Police Department attempted to stop a 2011 Chevrolet truck in the 3500 block of State Highway 3 for several traffic violations.

The driver of the truck refused to stop and proceeded northbound on State Highway 3.   Officers pursued the truck at times reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour.   The truck began to pull away from the pursuing officers.   The truck struck a 2015 Nissan four door at St. Hwy. 3 just north of Edgebrook in the City of South Houston.   The Nissan was occupied by an adult male, an adult female and a nine year old female.   All three occupants of the Nissan were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.   The only occupant of the truck, 28 year old Juan Antonio Alvizo, a La Porte resident, was taken into custody for suspicion of driving while intoxicated, and also transported to the hospital for injuries.

The Galveston County District Attorney’s Office has authorized a felony charge of evading with a vehicle to be filed against Alvizo.   Alvizo will be arraigned and bond will be set once he is released from the hospital.   Dickinson Police are at the hospital with Alvizo awaiting his release.   No photo of Alvizo is available at this time, since he is still in the hospital and has not been booked into jail.  Alvizo does not have any criminal history.

Dickinson Police Department is being assisted in the investigation by Texas Department of Public Safety.  The case is also being reviewed with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office for charges related to the crash and injuries, being that it occurred in Harris County.

Dickinson Police Department pursuit policy allows officers to initiate vehicular pursuit when the suspect exhibits the intention to avoid apprehension by refusing to stop when properly directed to do so.   No more than two department vehicles may enter pursuit without supervisor approval.   Supervisors will monitor the pursuit by ensuring compliance with department policy.  The department will review this pursuit for compliance with policy, as it does with all pursuits.

Names and conditions of the victims will not be released at this time, pending the ongoing investigation.
