Hire Houston Youth Launches for 2018

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner today held a news conference to announce the kick off of the 2018 Hire Houston Youth program.

Houston youth can now begins submitting applications for summer internships and positions, which pay a minimum of $8 an hour for at least seven weeks.

“Houston is a city of great opportunity, and if you dream big, your dreams will become a reality,” Turner said in announcing the launch of this year's program. Listen (22:45)

Turner created the Hire Houston Youth in 2016, with 450 city jobs, and has grown to more than 5,000 opportunities across the city.

“This year, we are the bar, and we are seeking 7,500 jobs for our local youth for the summer of 2018,” Turner said.

Turner asked youth and employers to visit to apply, or seek young workers, or sponsor youth employment.
