Flash Flood Watch in Effect for Harris County

What is the danger?

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Flash Flood Watch for Harris County until 3:00 p.m. This means the potential exists for flash flooding to occur. Heavy rainfall is causing minor street flooding in some areas. Up to three inches of rain or more is expected to fall over the region. Rain may move repeatedly over an area, which may cause a rapid rise in creeks and bayous. Use caution during the morning commute.

What you need to do:

HCOHSEM urges residents to stay informed of changing conditions, and pay attention to their local meteorologists and the NWS for weather information. Rainfall totals can be monitored on the Harris County Flood Warning System.

Please use caution during your morning commute:

  • If you must travel never drive into high water and use extreme caution at underpasses and low-lying areas where water accumulates.
  • Always remember to Turn Around, Don’t Drown! ® DO NOT DRIVE through high water and DO NOT DRIVE AROUND BARRICADES!
  • Just 2 feet of water can sweep your vehicle away.
