Sugar Land City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to award a $3,759,018 contract to NBG Constructors, Inc. for the Brooks Lake Diversion Weir/Amil Gate Replacement Project.

The motion included authorization of a budget amendment in the amount of $770,000 from the Surface Water Fund Balance.

The existing amil gates were constructed in the early 1970s as a flood control structure to operate in coordination with the damn system along Oyster Creek The gates are hydraulically activated during high water events to maintain a maximum flood elevation in the creek.

The city council voted unanimously to approve the purchase of six fleet replacement vehicles from Helfman Ford, in the total amount of $202,179.

The vehicles to be purchased include three Ford F250 model and two Ford F350 model trucks.

The city council voted 6-0, with Mayor Joe Zimmerman not present at the time of the vote, to approve on final reading an ordinance adopting the city's Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan Update as part of the city's comprehensive plan.

The city council voted unanimously to award a $307,480 contract to Inframark for the Meter Replacement Program. The contract will automatically renew for four additional years for a total contract price of $1,537,400.

The city council voted unanimously to approve, on first reading, an amendment to the city's Code of Ordinances regarding the use of public rights-of-way by revising the reserved section numbers in Division 2 and adding a new division regarding the height of overhead lines.
