Galveston County Commissioners Court today voted unanimously to support dredging in relation to Dickinson Bayou.

The resolution requests support and urges legislative action in favor of the United States Army Corps of Engineers conducting a dredging projects in the bayou. In the resolution, the county states that "the Dickinson Bayou watershed is very flat with poor natural drainage and flooding is a concern for every citizen in the watershed." Resolution

The commissioners court voted unanimously to put forward an intent to submit an application for funds through the Texas Indigent Defense Commission for FY2019.

The grant provides funding for indigent defense systems, and is a four-year commitment with a decreasing ratio, which would require the county to provide a larger local match each subsequent year of the grant. Under the grant, the county would provide 20 percent as a local match the initial year, 40 percent the following year, 60 percent in the third year, and 80 percent in the final year.

The court deferred the following six items:

  • Consideration for authorization of approval to issue formal solicitations for the following items for Information Technology Services
  • Consideration for authorization to cancel Bid #B181026, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport 4x4 and consideration for authorization to utilize Cooperative Purchasing Program to procure the previously mentioned vehicle for the Fleet Department
  • Consideration of approval of interlocal agreement between Galveston County and the City of Texas City for 2017 road bond projects
  • Consideration of approval of interlocal agreement between Galveston County and the City of Kemah for 2017 road bond projects
  • Consideration of approval of terminating contract with The Goodman Corporation for consulting services associated with the Pelican Island Bridge
  • Consideration of approval to authorize County Judge to sign contract for environmental and public involvement consulting services with Crouch Environmental Services, Inc. for the Pelican Island Bridge

The court went into executive session to discuss matters involving eligibility requirements for board appointment positions to the Harris-Galveston Subsidence District and personnel matters for the chief financial officer position, but took no subsequent action.

All other agenda items were approved unanimously with all members present. Agenda
