Survivors Repairing, Rebuilding and Planning for the Future Can Get Questions Answered by Insurance and Mitigation Specialists Feb. 26-March 3

AUSTIN, Texas – As Texans repair or rebuild their homes damaged by Hurricane Harvey and subsequent flooding, Texas Department of Insurance (TDI), home improvement stores and FEMA mitigation specialists are teaming up to provide free information, tips and literature on making homes stronger and safer.

Texans who have insurance questions can meet with TDI staff, in addition to mitigation specialists, at these two locations:

  • Harris County: Houston Northwest Highway Home Depot Feb. 28 (10 a.m.-1 p.m.) and March 2 (9 a.m-3 p.m.)
  • Galveston County: Texas City Lowe’s Feb. 27 (1-6 p.m.) and March 1 (1-6 p.m.)

FEMA mitigation specialists will answer questions and offer tips and techniques to build hazard-resistant homes using proven methods that will prevent or reduce damage from future disasters. Most of the information and the free publications provided are geared to do-it-yourself work and general contractors. FEMA mitigation specialists will be at all five locations listed below.

Recovery topics covered include flood insurance, elevating utilities and rebuilding flooded homes. Free reference booklets with information on protecting a home from flood damage will be available. FEMA advisers will be available at these stores:
