Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership GRCC
Galveston County
Hitchcock City Commission
by Garrett Bryce
Tuesday, February 27, 2018

The Hitchcock City Commission on Monday voted unanimously to authorize the Hitchcock Industrial Development Corporation to execute an assumed name certificate with the Texas Secretary of State and Galveston County to do business under the name of the Hitchcock Economic Development Corporation.

The city commission voted to approve upgrading the system for the city's street lights.

The city commission voted to accept the racial profiling report for the Hitchcock City Commission.

All items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present. Agenda

During a workshop held prior to the meeting the city commission heard a presentation from Dr. C.B. “Bix” Rathburn with RPC Consultants and Ron Cox of Ron Cox Consulting regarding the city's financial trends for FY2015 through FY2018 and recommendations for modifications to the city's FY2018 Budget.

The consultants recommended that the city reduce spending by $860,000, rather than draw from the city's fund balance. Recommendations included reducing the city's police department by four officers, and the street department by two employees. A hiring freeze had already been put in place, and three officers with Hitchcock's police department have recently resigned. Layoffs were not recommended, instead positions will not be filled if employees resign.

The city commission will consider the recommendations regarding the budget at a future meeting. Workshop Agenda
