GALVESTON ISLAND, TEXAS - The Grand Kids Festival Committee has just announced the 23rd Annual Grand Kids Festival Banner winners. Twelve designs were selected from Galveston County school students as winners of The Grand Kids Festival Banner Design Contest for 2018. This year’s theme is “Pirates!” First through third-place winners from each of four different grade categories have recreated their designs on banners that will hang from light posts throughout the Festival area. This year's 23rd annual Grand Kids Festival is set for Saturday, April 7. Admission to the Festival is free.

Winners of the contest received a Grand Kids Festival t-shirt and a set of greeting cards printed with their winning design. Greeting cards will also be available for sale at the Festival. All painted banners will be featured in Edna’s Room at The Grand as part of the upcoming March 3, 2018 ArtWalk, and as well, each of the artists will be recognized.

3rd place Reagan Hennigan, Collegiate Academy, Galveston

(Grades 7-8)

1st place Bailey Boudreaux, Austin Middle School, Galveston

2nd place Makenzie Markovich, Austin Middle School, Galveston

3rd place Bella Alvarado, Trinity Episcopal School, Galveston

Created as an extension to The Grand’s Serious Fun Children’s programming and designed to raise an appreciation and awareness of the importance of fine arts for children, the Festival is a community outreach event presented by The Grand, made possible only through the generosity of many organizations, foundations, businesses and individuals.

Founding sponsors of the Festival include Mary Ainslie, The Gladys B. Foundation in honor of Robert Richard Thornton, The Harris and Eliza Kempner Fund, Bank of America and The Park Board of Trustees of the City of Galveston.

The Grand Kids Festival, set for Saturday April 7, 2018, is a free event and will be held from 10 am – 5 pm in the historic downtown Cultural Arts District on Postoffice Street, between 20th and 23rd Streets, with the winning banners displayed throughout the Festival area.

Featuring four outdoor performance areas, performances on The Grand’s stage, as well as over 40 unique booths and attractions offering hands-on activities for children and children-oriented arts and crafts, The Grand Kids Festival has become a favorite springtime activity for families throughout the Houston/Galveston area and beyond, with no admission charged.
