ACC Regents Hear Report on Grant Program

The Alvin Community College Board of Regents received a status report on the federal Carl Perkins Grant program during their meeting on February 22.

The college received more than $79,568 in funding from the federal program for the 2017-18 fiscal year. The funds are used on recruiting, marketing and equipment for technical programs.

“The key category of our expenditures are in program improvement, expansion and upgrades of equipment and software,” said Dr. Linda Austin, Dean of Technical Programs.

In other action, regents unanimously approved updates to board policy. The updates addressed changes to investment policy, technology resources, information security, student conduct, harassment and more.

During the meeting, Dr. Christal M. Albrecht updated board members on the recent opening of the campus food bank, employee volunteer efforts with the United Way, a recent conference with area educators, staff participation in the Alvin ISD Family STEM Night and upcoming events.

Regents also:

-tabled a motion on allowing an egress for a road requested by the City of Alvin

-approved contract for casualty insurance with Gallagher Victory Insurance

-approved hiring of Regan Metoyer for director of Academic Services

-approved adjustments to the Dental Assisting program

-approved joint agreement for election services

-heard data report on enrollment

-approved grant application for Summer Coding Camp for Girls

-approved contract for disability services

-approved additional funds for roof repairs

-approved monthly financial reports

The board will have its next meeting on March 22 at 6 p.m. in the Nolan Ryan Center.
