Port Arthur City Council

Port Arthur City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to appoint and reappoint members to the Port Arthur Police Chief Advisory Committee.

The city council reappointed Roosevelt Petry, Mike Mason, Reginald Trainer, Joanne Jones, Brandon Bartie, Deloris “Bobbie” Prince, Thurman Bartie, Zulema Escobedo, Yolanda Piedras and Rashad Harris. Newly appointed was L. J. Robinson.

The city council voted to remove from the agenda a resolution authorizing an agreement between the Port Arthur Section 4A Economic Development Corporation and S&S Investigations & Security.

The city council voted to approve an agreement with Freese and Nichols, Inc. to develop a 20-year Capital Improvement Plan that would include capital projects, equipment purchases and major studies for the municipality through the Houston-Galveston Area Council's Plan Source Project. The cost of the plan totals $175,000.

The city council voted to set public hearings for March 27 and April 3 to receive public comment regarding the proposed disannexation of property.

The city council voted to authorize the repair and replacement of HVAC systems at Fire Station No. 5 and Fire station No. 8, in an amount not to exceed $39,257. The systems were damaged during Hurricane Harvey.

The city council voted to approve an agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation in assisting the city with the removal of debris caused by Hurricane Harvey.

TxDOT is currently assisting the city with debris removal, and the agreement will expand the area to north of 25th Street to Highway 73 and east of Highway 347 to the Motive property line.
