Help Remains after Disaster Recovery Center Closes in Galveston County

AUSTIN, Texas – A State of Texas/Federal Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in the city of Friendswood will close permanently at 6 p.m., Friday, March 9. However, help is just a mouse click, phone call or a tap on the FEMA app away.

The center at the following location is closing:

Galveston County

Former Kings Kids Learning Center

209 S. Friendswood Drive

Friendswood, TX 77546

The nearest open DRC is located only 5 miles away at School District Building (Pearland Historical Society), 2341 N. Galveston Ave., Pearland, TX 77581.

Individuals and businesses in counties included in the Texas federal disaster declaration for Hurricane Harvey and the subsequent floods can still get help by:

  • Logging into their account at DisasterAssistance.gov.
  • Calling the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362 (voice, 711/VRS-Video Relay Service) (TTY: 800-462-7585). Multilingual operators are available (press 2 for Spanish).
  • Downloading the FEMA app, available for Apple and Android mobile devices. To download visit: fema.gov/mobile-app.
  • Visiting anyofthecenters.Locationsof otherrecoverycentersonlineatwww.fema.gov/DRC.

Even though the deadline to apply for a loan for property damage has passed, small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture and most private nonprofit organizations of any size still have until May 25, 2018, to apply for an economic injury disaster loan to help meet working capital needs caused by the disaster. Economic injury assistance is available regardless of whether the business suffered any property damage. Business owners may apply online using SBA’s secure website at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela.
