Fort Bend County Commissioners Court today voted unanimously to approve the purchase of one ambulance/bus for emergency medical services from Houston Freightliner, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $720,243.

The purchase is being made through a purchasing agreement contract with the Houston-Galveston Area Council.

Commissioner Jerry Patterson asked if there was a location available to store the vehicle, under cover, due to its large size and use as a regional vehicle. Listen (1:29)

“It's a huge vehicle, it is a regional vehicle, and I hope we never have to use it,” County Judge Robert Hebert said. “I hope we park it there until it rusts out.”

The commissioners court took no action regarding on five items regarding variances to the county's Junkyard and Automotive Wrecking and Salvage Yard Ordinance. Properties at 9178 Gaines Road, 9909 State Highway 6, and 10011 State Highway 6 had requested variances to fence requirements, and properties at 16337 West Bellfort Street and 15419 West Bellfort Street had requested variances to the Fire Department Access Road Requirement. All five of the items died for lack of a motion.

Update: The commissioners court revisited the items following executive session, and voted unanimously to deny all five requests for variances.

The commissioners court took no action regarding the purchase of two Tahoe vehicles for replacement of other vehicles in the Juvenile Probatio Department, from Caldwell Country Chevrolet. The item was pulled from the agenda.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to award a $1,815,430 contract to Conrad Construction Co., LTD for the construction of the Ludwig Lane mobility project from Dulles to Brand Lane.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to award a contract to Nick's Diesel Service, Inc. for the purchase of a knuckleboom loader with trash body.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to approve a special warranty deed conveying 2.225 acres of land to Fort Bend County Freshwater Supply District No. 1 for the proposed Water Plant No. 2 site.

The commissioners court met in executive session to discuss enforcement of the county's Junkyard and Automotive Wreckage and Salvage Yard Ordinance, and to consult with the county's attorneys regarding threatened litigation concerning notice of claim by Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto & Aziz on February 26, as well as notice of claim by Woodfill Law Firm dated February 23. No action was taken on any of the items.

During the meeting, the court heard a presentation from Rodney Vannerson, Bonding Company Representative on the Fort Bend County Bail Bond Board, and Roger Moore, an attorney, concerning bail reform in Fort Bend County and the impact of reform in terms of cost and public safety. Listen (11:10)
