Culberson Statement on Vital Grant to Improve Flood Warning Signals in Houston
Press Release
Wednesday, March 07, 2018

Washington D.C. - Representative John Culberson (TX-07) released the following statement today after the City of Houston announced winning a $9.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to improve 40 flood-prone traffic intersections with new technology that alerts drivers when high water is present.

Rep. Culberson previously sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Cho to express strong support for the City of Houston’s 2017 application for the TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) grant funding for the city’s proposed roadway flood warning system. Culberson said the following:

“I’m very pleased that the City of Houston has been awarded the TIGER grant for their innovative and forward-thinking proposal to improve 40 flood-prone traffic intersections. Texans have experienced some of the worst flooding in our country’s history, and this is another step in the right direction as we continue to rebuild, recover and press ahead toward a stronger, more resilient community.

“I will continue to do everything in my power to ensure that Houston has the resources it needs to help and support all those impacted by this year’s storms.”
