UTMB continues League City expansion
News Release
Thursday, March 08, 2018

GALVESTON, TexasThe University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston has received approval from The University of Texas System Board of Regents to continue a $178 million expansion of UTMB’s League City Campus.

The approval allows UTMB to add 60 more beds and includes a five-story wing to the existing hospital.

“The League City Campus is located in a market experiencing rapid growth,” said Mike Shriner, vice president of business operations. “This is part of UTMB’s efforts to meet the increased demand for services as a result of the growth.”

Shriner said the north Galveston County campus will allow for efficient use of space by using existing investments in buildings and utility infrastructure.

Construction that began in 2017 is nearing completion on a new parking structure and elevated walkway that connects to the existing hospital which opened in 2016.

The new facilities will also address needs as The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center nears completion of a new outpatient cancer center on UTMB’s League City campus.

MD Anderson’s center on UTMB’s League City Campus marks the first-ever clinical collaboration between UT System sister institutions.
