Galveston ISD Board of Trustees
by Garrett Bryce
Thursday, April 12, 2018

The Galveston Independent School District Board of Trustees, in a special meeting on Wednesday, voted unanimously to approve the purchase of five 72-passenger diesel buses for a cost not to exceed $512,280.

The buses will be purchased through a BuyBoard contract.

Trustee Johnny Smecca inquired about the use of smaller vehicles, such as passenger vans, for use in some of the bus fleet.

“I notice that we use small buses, too, which is really cool, because I just saw one going out west a couple of days, and always in my mind, I thought whether we need a big 72-passenger bus going out west,” Smecca said.

Superintendent Dr. Kelli Moulton stated you cannot have vans serving as school buses for students, but that vans could be used for transporting staff to training and other events.

The board then received board policy training facilitated by the district's policy consultant from the Texas Association of School Boards.

No other action items were on the agenda. Trustee Ken Jencks was absent. Agenda
