BAYOU ANIMAL SERVICES ADOPTION COORDINATOR, SARAH SAUNDERS IS CONSIDERED FOR THE 2018 NATIONAL UNSUNG HEROES AWARD BY PETCO FOUNDATION AND VICTORIA STILWELL

DICKINSON, Texas – The Petco Foundation is teaming up with Victoria Stilwell to honor Unsung Heroes for their lifesaving efforts on behalf of animals. One of these honorees will be awarded the national Unsung Hero award on June 8 at the Petco Foundation Lifesaving Awards. Bayou Animal Service’s Adoption Coordinator, Sarah Saunders is among the finalists for the award.

The Petco Foundation, Bayou Animal Services, and the City of Dickinson seek the help of animal lovers across the nation to help select the awardee through popular vote. Sarah Saunders’ story was documented by Victoria Stilwell and is available to view at petcofoundation.og/unsunghero. Voting will close on May 25.

“There are heroes in every community who dedicate their lives to helping animals and are true lifesaving champions’ said Susanne Kogut, president of the Petco Foundation. “Honoring these extraordinary people and telling their stories is our way of saying, ‘thank you. And perhaps these stories will inspire others to be heroes too.” The City of Dickinson proclaimed February 14, 2018 Sarah Saunders Day in recognition of her heroic work during Hurricane Harvey and dedication to the local community. We encourage residents to spread Sarah’s story and vote at petcofoundation.og/unsunghero. The organization with the most verified votes will receive a $25,000 lifesaving investment from the Petco Foundation.

About the Petco Foundation
At the Petco Foundation, we believe that every animal deserves to live its best life. Since 1999, we’ve invested more than $200 million in lifesaving animal welfare work to make that happen. With our more than 4,000 animal welfare partners, we inspire and empower communities to make a difference by investing in adoption and medical care programs, spay and neuter services, pet cancer research, service and therapy animals, and numerous other lifesaving initiatives. Through our Think Adoption First program, we partner with Petco stores and animal welfare organizations across the country to increase pet adoptions. So far, we’ve helped more than 5.5 million pets find their new loving families, and we’re just getting started. Visit petcofoundation.org to learn more about how you can get involved.
