Under a beautiful Texas sky the 2018 Texas Crab Festival kicked off on Friday at Crystal Beach on Bolivar Peninsula. Larry Flanagan served as MC for the evening. The first music performance was delivered by a Bolivar Peninsula native, Haley Comeaux. Her voice rang out with a bit of a country twang and light pop qualities.

The 2018 Texas Crab FestivalWith their heartfelt rendition of our National Anthem the children of Crenshaw School were the next performers on the stage at Gregory Park. Local U.S.Military Veterans served as the color guard, raising the flag while the children sang.

Anne Willis was honored for her 33 years of dedication to The Texas Crab Festival. “We were much smaller and there wasn’t a lot of money back when Anne organized the first festival,” said Flanagan. “The trophies back in the beginning were handmade by Miss Anne.” He added.

Jason Allen from East Texas came on stage providing guests with foot-stomping, grab your partner and dance, honky-tonk music.

Parking guides were on duty and there were free golf cart rides from the parking area to the entrance of the grounds. “We love what we do out here for the festival,” commented one of the golf cart drivers.

Crab races, winning a pet rabbit or iguana, carnival rides, carnival games, and lots of fun for young and old were all part of the festivities at the Texas Crab Festival. The event continues witmore music, fun and Texas Gulf coast cooking contests through Sunday.
