Beaumont, Texas - The Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) introduces FRESH: The James Kralik Collection and Paraíso y Presa: The John Gaston Fairey Collection of Mexican Folk Art June 16 - September 2, 2018 in the main galleries.

On Friday, June 15, 2018, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., AMSET will host a free and open to the public opening reception featuring a discussion about Mexican folk art by Patrons Liliana and René Greenwald with Lynn P. Castle, Executive Director and Sarah Beth Wilson, Curator of Exhibitions and Collections, and a discussion about contemporary Texas art by Betty Moody, owner of Moody Gallery with Artists Michael Bise and Mary McCleary, and Collector James Kralik. Complimentary light appetizers and beverages will be served.

Paraíso y Presa (Paradise and Prey) will feature a portion of the Mexican folk art collection donated by Professor John Gaston Fairey to AMSET's permanent collection.  AMSET was chosen for this donation due to the organization's active educational programming and community involvement.  This exhibition will feature creation imagery and good versus evil subject matter from the vast collection of ceramics, masks, and trees of life.

AMSET continues its tradition of exhibiting recently acquired artwork in the summer season.  FRESH: The James Kralik Collection will feature notable works by Texas artists Michael Bise, Lucas Johnson, and Mary McCleary.  Kralik donated 16 works to the museum because of AMSET's dynamic and engaging exhibitions and educational programming.
