Brazoria County Commissioners Court on Tuesday voted 4-1, with Commissioner Ryan Cade opposed, to authorize a notice of intent to issue certificates of obligation in an amount not to exceed $8,725,000.

Cade had made a motion to refinance old debt through the debt issuance and to pay cash for new projects being considered for funding through proceeds from the certificates. The motion failed for lack of a second.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to authorize the Office of Emergency Management and the Public Information Officer to apply for a Harvey Preparedness Grant through The Center for Disaster Philanthropy and the Rebuild Texas Fund for $100,000 for disaster planning, community preparedness projects, training, equipment purchases and other needs. No cash match is required for the grant.

The commissioners court took no action regarding closing and vacating a public road right-of-way in Precinct 4.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to reject several offers for the purchase of tax-foreclosed property, including:

  • $130 for 0.0775 acres at North Avenue M in Freeport
  • $125 for 0.0775 acres at North Avenue M in Freeport
  • $1,550 for 0.8 acres on Brahman Trail in Bar X Ranch
  • $4,879 for 1 acre at 626 Longhorn Trail in Bar X Ranch
  • $15,473 for 16.262 acres on County Road 185 in the Alvin area
  • $15,475 for 16.262 acres along County Road 185
  • $350 for 0.6855 acres of property on County Road 939 in Sweeny ISD
  • $350 also offered for 0.6855 acres of property on County Road 939
  • $350 for another offer for 0.6855 acres of property on County Road 939
  • $500 for 0.1582 acres of property on North Mahan in Davidson Slater Place
  • $6,200 for 0.1607 acres at 1026 West 4th Street in Freeport
  • $16,557 for 0.1435 acres on South Avenue G in Freeport
  • $130 for 1.25 acres on State Highway 332

The commissioners court voted unanimously to prohibit certain fireworks in unincorporated areas of the county. News Release

The commissioners court voted unanimously to approve a settlement agreement of $25,000 to be paid to the county as compensation for property damage resulting from a motor vehicle accident that occurred on August 21, 2017, as discussed in closed session.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to approve a property damage release upon the payment of $13,000 to the county as compensation for property damage at the Texas Gulf Coast Regional Airport resulting from an incident on December 20, 2017 involving an aircraft owned by Judith C. Linn and Robert Alan Linn, as discussed in closed session.

The commissioners court took no action resulting from any other items discussed in closed session.
