Jefferson County
Full Steam Ahead at Texas State Railroad
News Release
Tuesday, June 19, 2018

Visit with us at the Ben J. Rogers Regional Visitors Center on Friday, July 6

Beaumont, Texas - Summer rail season is full steam ahead and Texas State Railroad will be showing some Rail hospitality at the Ben J. Rogers Regional Visitors Center, 5055 IH-10 South in Beaumont on Friday, July 6 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The entire Visitors Center will be teeming with travel, cultural and local ideas to get you out of the house and into Texas this summer. Allow enough time for the presentations, giveaways and discount offers you will want to hear all about.

At Texas State Railroad the Celebration of Steam at the Official Railroad of Texas began on Saturday, May 26, when the Big Boys of Steam rolled out of the Palestine train depot for the first time in 2018. Steam trains will continue to run out of the Palestine train depot through July and then start departing from the Rusk depot in August and September. Excursions run through the summer every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Departing at 6:00 p.m. on select Saturday’s June 30, July 28, August 25 and September 22, Pints in the Pines is an optional first-class event, taking place onboard the train as it ambles through the Piney Woods of East Texas. Texas’ very own craft beer brews will be offered for sampling during the outbound portion of the Saturday night journey. Each Pints in the Pines ticket include a souvenir tasting glass for each participant and a barbecue dinner during the stopover in Palestine or Rusk. The return excursion to Rusk allows ample time for all craft beer lovers to purchase and savor a full serving of their favorite brew, while comparing notes and sharing stories with the friends or family came with, and the new friends you gained along the route. A good craft beer makes friends out of everyone. Cost is $119 per person and the age restriction is 21 and over.

In our fast-paced world folks often forget to slow down and unplug, to take time to savor tranquil moments big and small, to appreciate life and loved ones. An adventure aboard Texas State Railroad, or a wildness respite at the Rusk campground, is the antidote to the modern world; back to wild forests, charming architecture, peaceful ranchland and vintage transportation.

Rail travel is classic; reminding us that the U.S.’s Golden Age is still viable through new adventures,
innovations and connections.

Summer Means the Big Boys of Steam Come Out to Play!
