News Release
Friday, August 03, 2018

Multi-talented ninety-two-year-old League City resident, Ken Mallett, will receive a Mayoral proclamation, at his surprise birthday party, Friday, August 3, 12:30 pm, at Helen Hall Library, at his art and sculpture exhibition. He is the featured artist in August as part of the Library’s new Community In Focus Program, showcasing local artists.

Mallet has been creating artwork since he was eight years old. He also does embroidery, woodcarving, silver jewelry and wood crafting.

Ken is also a World War II veteran. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945 at age 17, one week before his high school graduation. He served aboard a small escort aircraft carrier, USS Altamaha CVE-18, bringing servicemen home from the Pacific Islands.

After leaving the Navy, he worked in the aerospace industry, as a Facilities Design Engineer. He was part of the space program from its early rockets through the Apollo and Space Shuttle programs.

After retiring and moving to League City in 2003, Ken made use of his multi-talents designing the cover for the League City Garden Club’s annual book. He also creates drawings of each home on the annual garden tour which are presented to owners of the host homes as thank you gifts.

Helen Hall Library is located at 100 W, Walker St. in League City.
