Galveston College Board of Regents

The Galveston College Board of Regents on Wednesday voted unanimously to schedule a public hearing for August 22 regarding the college's proposed FY2019 Budget.

The board voted to extend an interlocal agreement with Galveston County for law enforcement services at the college. The Galveston County Sheriff's Office will provide deputies for law enforcement through August 14, 2021.

The board voted to adopt a resolution recognizing Dr. Gaynelle Hayes for her 50 years of service to the college and wishing her well in her retirement.

Hayes began her career with Galveston College on September 1, 1968 as a counselor for University Parallel Programs. She was named a vice president for the college in 2005. Resolution

The board voted to ratify the appointment of new full-time instructors. Jana Benjey and Kathleen Hutchins-Otero were named nursing instructors.

During the meeting, the board received a report regarding its new day police academy, which has 18 cadets who will graduate in December. The daytime academy is in addition to the college's evening police academy.
