The Texas City City Commission on Wednesday voted unanimously to adopt an ordinance reducing the speed limit along Interstate 45 during full reconstruction of the freeway.

The speed limit on the main lanes will be reduced from 65 miles per hour to 55 miles per hour between the north city limit at Dickinson Bayou to the south city limit, and from 55 miles per hour to 45 miles per hour within the city limits. The roads will remain under reduced speed limit until construction is complete.

The city commission voted to approve a contract with the Galveston County Health District for water pollution and abatement services.

Under the revised contract, the district will provide services for an annual fee of $35,555.

The city commission voted to approve a one-year agreement with the County of Galveston for mutual aid.

Under the agreement, the city will provide mutual aid to unincorporated areas of the county for $22,500 to be paid by the Galveston County Commissioners Court.
