Free Risk Management Class Offered at College of the Mainland
News Release
Friday, October 12, 2018

Texas City — A free class on waste management is being offered through the College of the Mainland’s Center for Risk Management on Friday, Oct. 19.

The day-long class - Regulated Waste Management and RCRA Updates – is being held at the college’s Gulf Coast Safety Institute in La Marque.

Under the auspices of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) of 1976, the U.S Environmental Protection Agency developed regulations regarding the proper management of waste materials which went into effect in 1980. The regulations have gone relatively unchanged for 37 years but two substantial changes are expected within a year. This class will address the basic requirements of waste management with emphasis on the forthcoming changes.

Steve Laughlin who has more than 20 years of experience in the environmental health and safety profession, is teaching the class.

The class, sponsored by the Texas Mutual Insurance Company, is being taught at the Gulf Coast Safety Institute located at 320 Delany Road and is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with check-in starting at 7:30 a.m.
