Regional Home Rule Cities Elect Members to H-GAC Board of Directors
News Release
Wednesday, November 07, 2018

Houston – Mayors and Councilmembers from over 30 cities in our region gathered for an annual caucus meeting to ensure their constituents are well represented on the Board that oversees the work of the Houston – Galveston Area Council, the region’s planning commission.

Officials from Home Rule Cities with a population under 25,000 as of the last Federal census, met on Thursday, Nov. 1 to choose two representatives and two alternates on the H-GAC Board of Directors. Home Rule Cities are cities with populations of more than 5,000 in which citizens have adopted home rule charters, approved by a vote of the people.

City of Dickinson Councilmember William King III and City of Bellaire Councilmember Trisha Pollard were reelected to serve a second term as Board members representing Home Rule Cities. Prior to being elected Representative in 2017, Councilmember King III had previously served as Alternate since 2014.

This is Councilwoman Pollard’s second year serving as Home Rule Cities representative on the H-GAC Board. She also serves on the H-GAC Transportation Policy Council representing Small cities in Harris County.

The group re-elected City of Alvin Councilmember Adam Arendell and City of Stafford Councilmember Cecil Willis to serve as Alternates.

H-GAC’s Board of Directors is composed of thirty-six local elected officials who serve on the governing bodies of member local governments. The Board provides oversight and direction for H-GAC staff in carrying out the wide array of programs including law enforcement training, workforce development, transportation planning, and rural 9-1-1 services.
