Galveston City Council Special Workshop

Galveston City Council, in a special workshop held on Wednesday, held a thorough discussion about the city’s recommendations to the United States Army Corps of Engineers regarding the Coastal Texas Protection & Restoration Study and the Tentatively Selected Plan.

The city council went over a letter composed to the USACE. Concerns outlined in the document include, but are not limited to: a ring levee, placement of the proposed levee and floodwall land barriers, and environmental concerns. Letter

Within the past month, two public meetings were held to gather input on the TSP. News Article

No action was taken as the matter will be brought back at the first city council meeting of the year on January 24. The original deadline for the comment period was Wednesday. However, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced that the deadline had been extended for an additional 30 days.
